A reflection on the past, present, and discussion of future directions of data storage in this era of parallelized workflows. Information will be provided on NetApp's Scale-Out vision, Data ONTAP GX, new technologies such as solid state storage in an HPC environment, and upcoming advances in pNFS and federated file systems. Questions and comments welcome.

About the speaker

Ryan Sayre is a Consulting Systems Engineer for NetApp, a global leader in enterprise storage systems. He specializes in Scale-Out Storage Architectures for HPC markets in Europe, Middle East, and Africa. Ryan focuses on architecting and consulting on technical applications that utilize NetApp's clustered architectures, Data ONTAP GX and the upcoming Data ONTAP 8 Scale-Out platforms.

Before joining NetApp, Ryan spent four years as IT Infrastructure manager at LAIKA Entertainment, where he architected, implemented, and maintained a computing environment supporting multiple productions in commercials, video game development, and feature films. He managed growth of the studio from 85 people to over 580 utilizing over 300TB of storage and hundreds of Linux and Windows render nodes.

Ryan has also held positions in the EDA industry, SGI, and Intel. He holds a bachelors degree in computer science from the University of Portland, and founded a 200 member Internet Co-Operative.
