Abstract
|
RPM, the Red Hat Package Manager tool, has established itself as
the software distribution format of choice for most major Linux
distributions. It is also the primary distribution format
used in the European DataGrid project, and possibly in LCG.
This tutorial presents motivation, concepts and best practices of
software packaging using RPM. It is intended to help software
developers at CERN with the transition from other methods of delivery
(over AFS or as .tar files) toward RPM, using real-life examples.
