COMPUTING SEMINAR
ABSTRACT
Volumetric display systems are able to depict images within a physical volume and therefore some of the major depth cues such as binocular and motion parallax are automatically satisfied. The operation of a swept volume volumetric display known as the Cathode Ray Sphere will be described. This system will be used to provide a basis for discussion upon the limitations of various volumetric technologies. The development of display systems which are, in principle, able to operate at higher levels of performance will be considered and suggestions made concerning the manner in which high definition systems may be implemented.
